WALLACE Y. SAKAMOTO Wallace “Wally” Yukito Sakamoto of Honokaa, Hawaii, passed away on August 5, 2023, at the age of 91. Always sharing aloha with everyone…he was kind, generous, hardworking and a fun loving person. After graduation from Honokaa High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan, where he met and married Keiko Sakamoto. After serving in the Army, he worked various jobs but spent many years employed at the Hamakua Sugar Plantation. He also was a Life Guard and instructor for Life Guard Certification Courses. Wally loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed playing softball and was presented with an award in 2014 for most tournaments played. He also enjoyed diving, fishing, hunting and searching for various items to add to his many collections. Wally was predeceased by his parents James&Peggy Sakamoto, and his wife, Keiko Sakamoto. He is survived by wife Maryann Sakamoto; Children: Arthur Sakamoto&Family; Jenny (Jason) Hasegawa&Family; Lynn (Leighton) Higa&Family; Joy (Brian) Hozaki&Family; Stepchildren: Chris Lung&Family; AnnMarie Lung&Family; Brothers: Jerry (Rosie) Sakamoto&Family; Howard (Molly, dec.) Sakamoto&Family. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who loved and enjoyed their Grandpa/Uncle Wally. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Uvonne Lindsey, Jerry&Rosie Sakamoto and the Saito family. Much mahalo to the staff at North Hawaii Community Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Honokaa Hongwanji Mission Temple, Saturday, October 14, 2023, Visitation: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.; Service: 11:30 a.m. Scattering of Ashes to follow on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
