This federally funded project is considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The general shape and extent of the APE remain unchanged, but refinements have been made on the Hilo side of the gulch to include Old Mamalahoa Highway road so that it now encompasses approximately 14.45 acres. As before, the APE includes locations where active construction (including soil remediation) would occur, as well as staging, storage, and construction access. The APE still extends approximately 600 feet mauka and makai of the bridge and approximately 100 feet beyond each abutment along Hawaii Belt Road. The active construction area has not changed. Should you have any questions regarding the revised APE, please contact Robert Sun, Project Manager at (808) 692-7578 or by email at robert.sun@hawaii.gov. (HTH1442469 1/3/24)
