MATTHEW TODD WARHOLIC May 3, 1971 March 22, 2024 Matthew Todd Warholic, 52, of Mountain View, Hawai’i, passed away on March 22, 2024 in Kealakekua, Hawai’i. He was born on May 3, 1971, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Homer Center High School, after which he entered Yale University and graduated in 1997. A love of travel led him to Chang Mai, Thailand where he taught English. After returning to the U.S, he designed and supervised the building of an earth sheltered house in Kansas for his brother Chris. He acquired his carpentry skills from working with his brother Mick and from designing and building theater sets while at Yale. Matthew went on to enroll at the University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth, Kansas where he earned a Masters in Elementary Education. He taught at the Raffles American School in Johor Bahru, Malaysia before his current employment as a teacher at The Volcano School of Arts and Sciences in Volcano, Hawai’i. He loved teaching, and his students were precious to him. His favorite pastimes were motorcycling and hiking the difficult trails in Volcano National Park. Matthew is survived by his mother Lynette Gearhart and stepfather Oscar Gearhart of Home, Pennsylvania; sister Tawni (Charles) Corcoran of Westminster, Colorado; brothers Chris (Jerusha) Warholic of Kansas City, Kansas; and Mick Warholic of Home, Pennsylvania; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Charles Warholic. A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date.
