NOTICE OF CONSULTATION SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1966 AS AMENDED (2006) HEIGHT MODERNIZATION FACILITIES, PHASE 2 CONTINUOUSLY OPERATING REFERECE STATIONS (CORS)/ VIRTUAL REFERENCE STATIONS (VRS) MULTIPLE LOCATIONS, ISLAND OF HAWAII FEDERAL-AID PROJECT NUMBER: STP-0100(095) TAX MAP KEY(S): MULTIPLE Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division (HDOT) propose Height Modernization Facilities, Phase 2 Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) / Virtual Reference Stations (VRS) project. This federally federal funded HDOT project is considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The proposed undertaking will install Virtual Reference Stations (VRS) on existing buildings at eight locations on the Island of Hawaii. The VRS consists of an antenna dome and a mount that will be bolted directly to an existing masonry building at each of the eight proposed VRS locations. The antenna dome will extend six feet above the building rooftop. A new equipment cabinet measuring 36″x36″x18″ will be installed. Conduits will be mounted to walls and ceilings to provide electrical and telecommunication connections from existing sources to the new equipment cabinet. At some locations trenching for electrical and telecommunication ductlines may be needed and will be approximately 12 inches wide by 30 inches deep. Trees at certain locations may be trimmed or removed. The proposed area of potential effect is comprised of the eight building footprints where the VRS antenna dome and mount, equipment cabinet and conduits will be installed. Pursuant to Section 106 of the NHPA, Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral, lineal or cultural ties to, cultural and historical property knowledge of and/or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment to the proposed project area are requested to contact HDOT. Other individuals and organizations with demonstrated legal, economic or historic preservation interest in the undertaking are asked to contact HDOT and share information you may have on historical and cultural sites that you may have knowledge of within the proposed APE.
