NOTICE OF CONSULTATION SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1966 AS AMENDED (2006) HAWAII BELT ROAD, WAILUKU RIVER BRIDGE REHABILITATION PIIHONUA AND PUUEO AHUPUAA, HILO MOKU, HAWAII ISLAND FEDERAL-AID PROJECT NUMBER: BR-019-2(083) TAX MAP KEYS: (3) 2 3 002:999, (3) 2 6 001:020; (3) 2-6-001:999, (3) 2 6 002:888 Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division (HDOT) propose to gather soil information and data for the development of plans and specifications for the Hawaii Belt Road, Wailuku River Bridge Rehabilitation. This federally funded HDOT project is considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). HDOT proposes to obtain soil information to assist the designers in development of plans and specifications for the future Hawaii Belt Road, Wailuku River Bridge rehabilitation project. This portion of the Hawaii Belt Road, Wailuku River Bridge rehabilitation project requires four borings. Two borings will be near the abutments on land and two borings will be taken from the Wailuku River Bridge deck and into the riverbed. The 2 borings taken from the bridge deck will be completed in approximately 5 days. The 2 borings take adjacent to the abutment will be completed in approximately 4 days. Pursuant to Section 106 of the NHPA, Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral, lineal or cultural ties to, cultural and historical property knowledge of and/or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment to the proposed project area are requested to contact HDOT. Other individuals and organizations with demonstrated legal, economic or historic preservation interest in the undertaking are asked to contact HDOT and share information you may have on historical and cultural sites that you may have knowledge of within the proposed APE. We welcome any information within 30 days of notice.
