INFORMATIONAL MEETING PUBLIC NOTICE A project to inform management for dryland forest conservation in Palamanui The Hawai’i Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife invites community members to an informational meeting to gather community input that would be used to inform a vision for the unencumbered area adjacent to the Palamanui Community College Campus and in the potential development of a conservation management plan for this unique forest. Date: Thursday, October 9, 2025 Time: 5:00 PM Location: Hawai’i Community College Palamanui Campus The area in question encompasses over 800 acres of state-managed lands and represents one of Hawai’i’s most critically endangered ecosystems the dry forest of Palamanui. The state seeks input on how best to restore and conserve this unique landscape, which faces urgent threats from wildfires and invasive species. A management plan is being developed in partnership with the Hawai’i Community College Palamanui, who are working to implement restoration, strengthen conservation outcomes, and expand educational and program opportunities for the community. This meeting is an opportunity for community members to learn about the concept, ask questions, and provide early input on the long-term vision, goals, and objectives for forest conservation, public access, and educational programming. Your participation will help shape the future of the management plan for the area.
