PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE Former Popoki Target Area Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) Puna District, Island of Hawaii, Hawaii The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting a 3Rs of Explosives Safety Awareness Meeting as part of the long-term management phase of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) process. The session will present the history of the Former Popoki Target Area, outline potential risks associated with unexploded ordnance (UXO), and explain the “3Rs of Explosives Safety”Recognize, Retreat, and Reportprocedures to follow if UXO is encountered. The Former Popoki Target Area has undergone investigation, removal, and cleanup actions. Long-term management includes monitoring site conditions and ensuring continued protection of human health and the environment through ongoing public outreach, community education, and five-year reviews of site conditions. Members of the Puna Community are invited to attend and engage with project representatives.
