BERNICE NOBUKO NAKAHARA Bernice Nobuko Nakahara passed away peacefully on Easter morning, April 5th, five days before her much anticipated 100th birthday in Las Vegas, NV. She spent her final decade on Hawaii’s “ninth island” exactly as she lived: full of welcoming smiles and hugs, anticipating wins at the casino Buffalo slot machines, enjoying conversations with family and friends, preparing her favorite “blueberry dessert” and “nishime,” and yes, making sure that the “Aloha spirit” was alive and well wherever she frequented. Born on April 10, 1926, Bernie grew up in her plantation Kalopa home and was one of nine Uyehara siblings. She is fondly remembered as the longtime proprietor/hairdresser of Honoka’a Beauty Salon where she worked for fifty plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Takashi Nakahara in 2003. Bernice is survived by son Scott Nakahara D.D.S. (Susan), daughter Doreen Oleson, Ed.D. (Don), 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. She leaves behind special friends, Jolene Gentry, Maricel Budho, and the residents and staff of Heart Homes, LLC. A private Buddhist service and interment at the Pa’auilo Hongwanji Columbarium will be held to honor Bernice’s life in June. The family requests no flowers or “koden.” Arrangements Provided By: Davis Funeral Homes Rainbow Chapel
