U.S. Army Publishes Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Army Training Land Retention at Pohakuloa Training Area on Hawai’i Island In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Hawai’i Environmental Policy Act (HEPA), the Department of the Army (Army) published a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to analyze the Army’s proposed retention of up to approximately 23,000 acres of land currently leased to the Army by the State of Hawai’i (“State-owned land”) at Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) on the island of Hawai’i. The public comment periods will run concurrently to meet both NEPA and HEPA requirements. The Army invites public comments on the Draft EIS during a 60-day public comment period beginning April 8, 2022. The Draft EIS and public meeting materials are available on the EIS website: https://home.army.mil/hawaii/index.php/PTAEIS. Comments can be submitted on the EIS website (preferred), emailed to: ATLR-PTA-EIS@g70.design, or mailed to: ATLR PTA EIS Comments, P.O. Box 3444, Honolulu, HI 96801-3444. To be considered in the Final EIS, all comments must be postmarked or email dated by 11:59 p.m. Hawai’i Standard Time on June 7, 2022.
