Electronics Technician (#0081266T)
The Institute for Astronomy (IfA), University of Hawaii at Manoa, is seeking an Electronics Technician for the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility. Position is full-time and Federally funded to begin approximately Dec 2022, annually renewable pending availability of funds and satisfactory performance. Duties: The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks to ensure the operational status of the Infrared Telescope and its electrical power systems, drive and control systems, intercom and data acquisition systems. Additionally the technician will diagnose electronic and electrical failures using oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers, etc. Duties will also consist but not limited to maintaining, repairing, constructing and modifying digital, analog and power electronics, including tachometers, servo amplifiers, motors, brakes and specialized items such as motor solenoid operated filter and aperture wheels. The technician will be occasionally required to work irregular hours. Education and Professional Work Experience: Possession of an Associate Degree in Electronics Technology with 5 year(s) of experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for support work (i.e. troubleshooting, repair, calibrating and maintaining electronic instrumentation) or equivalent education/training or experience. Supplemental Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work at an elevation of 14,000 ft.
Must be able work a non-standard work schedule. Ability to travel independently
to Maunakea. Requirement fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Driver’s License (class 3) or
