NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), is authorized to manage and regulate public lands set apart as forest reserves as detailed in Chapter 183, Hawai’i Revised Statues (HRS). Pursuant to Sections 183-12 and 183-13, HRS, DLNR hereby provides notice of public hearing for two proposed changes affecting the area of government forest reserve lands on the island of Hawai’i.
1. Addition of Tax Map Key (3) 4-1-006:002 comprising approximately 162 acres to the Manowaiale’e Forest Reserve, Hamakua, Hawai’i.
2. Addition of Tax Map Key (3) 9-8-001:010 (por.) comprising approximately 7,042 acres to the Kapapala Forest Reserve, Kapapala, Kau, Hawai’i.
DLNR will hold a hybrid public hearing to discuss the proposed Forest Reserve System changes. The meeting will be held on March 28, 2024, at 5:30 pm in DOFAW’s Hilo office conference room located at 19 E. Kawili Street, Hilo, HI 96720. To testify remotely via Zoom, please email forestry@hawaii.gov at least 24 hours before the hearing to receive a Zoom link.
All interested persons are urged to attend the public hearing to present relevant information and individual opinions for the DLNR to consider. Persons unable to attend or wishing to present additional comments may mail written testimony postmarked no later than April 5, 2024, to Division of Forestry and Wildlife Attn: Forestry Program Manager, 1151 Punchbowl St., #325, Honolulu, HI 96813, or by email at forestry@hawaii.gov.
Any person requesting an auxiliary aid or service (i.e. large print materials, sign language interpreters) is asked to send a request to forestry@hawaii.gov or call (808) 587-4166 through the Telecommunication Relay Service at 711 ten days prior to the hearing.
