NOTICE OF A TEMPORARY RULE CHANGE FOR GAME MAMMAL HUNTING IN UNIT
A OF THE MAUNA KEA FOREST RESERVE DURING GAME BIRD HUTNING DAYS
Legal Notice DOFAW
The Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of the 2022-2023 Game Bird Hunting Season on Saturday, November 5, 2022. The fall game bird hunting season will run through Sunday, January 29, 2023. To comply with federal mandates, including the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and to meet current state regulations, the last day for hunting mourning dove will be January 15, 2023. A valid hunting license and a game bird stamp are required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands.
The Department will be adjusting Hawaii Administrative Rules Ch 13-123 Rules Regulating Game Mammals Exhibit 11. Feral goat and sheep hunting on Mauna Kea, Hawaii in Unit A and Unit G will be temporarily changed from year-round daily to year round daily, except on legal game bird hunting days.
Due to the popularity of the hutning area the amendment to the rules regulating game mammal hunting will create a safer enviornment for all hunters during the game bird hunting season.
Contact the Division of Forestry and Wildlife in Kamuela at (808) 887-6063 for additional details regarding this temporary regultation update.
Done at Honolulu this 29th day of October 2022.
